- Slot Machine (also called Fruit machine): A slot machine is a gambling game which consists of a few spinning reels that display various symbols. The player of the slot game needs to place bet on pay-lines and spin. If the combination of symbols on the reels match to the winning rules then the slot pays out according to the pay table. Different types of slot games are as explained below:
- Three reel slot: A slot machine which consists of 3 reels and one or more paylines.
- Five reel slot: A slot machine with 5 reels and one or more paylines.
- Multi payline slot: is a slot machine that has more than one payline. It is usually a 5 reel slot machine and the player can select the paylines they want to play on, the more lines selected the more the chance of winning but the higher the cost of the stake.
- Multiplier slots: This is a type of slot machine which has various stake values and various numbers of coins so the total bet is these two multiplied together.
- Video slot: This type of machine has video or touch screen.
- Straight slot: It is the basic machine with a fixed payout with no consideration of the number of times that the game is played.
- Progressive slot: This kind of slot increases the top prize as more people play it by adding a portion of each player's bet to the jackpot. The jackpot is reset once it has been won.
- Bonus slot: It is a slot machine in which the winning proportion grows bigger if the player bets the maximum amount. (It is also a slot that has an extra bonus feature round)
- Reel: A reel is a spool/ cylinder that turns on an axis and is made up of many different symbols. It is spun and then stopped to reveal the symbols that make up the result.
- Symbol: A symbol is a printed sign used to represent an element such as bars, bell, lemon, seven, cherry. Each reel on a slot machine normally displays 3 or 5 symbols.
- Bet:It is the amount of money that is risked in a wager.
- Payline:The symbols are lined up on the payline which can be straight or diagonal, the number of pay lines that can be chosen depends on the gaming rules.
- Pay table: The pay table is a chart or table that specifies the winning lines and payout amounts for each type of win.
- Hopper: It is a container in which the coins are held ready for dispensing (in real slots).
- Fill: When the hopper becomes empty, the player has to refill it with coins in order to be able to continue the game.
- Tilt: It is an event when a slot machine in a real casino malfunctions.
